DRZ125 & KLX125 Engine
Can you do big bore kit for DRZ125?
I am stationed at Ft Lewis, Washington and own a DRZ125 that my son rides. I would like to know if you would bore the cylinder and install the piston for the big bore kit if I sent it to you. How long would the turn-around be for this? What is the total price (cylinder work, big bore kit, and shipping) as well.
A:We send all our cylinder boring to Northwest Sleeve. It would be faster and less costly for you to send the cylinder directly to them for boring. If you want us to handle it all for you the total will come to $365 for the kit, boring and the shipping. Expect about a 2 week turnaround.
What does it take to get the larger valve kit installed?
I want to trick out our 2003 KLX125 a little. Thinking about a big bore kit with the cam, and wanted to ask you about the bigger valves--what does it take to get them installed? How reliable are they? What about a rev limiter? Have you guys ever played around with that? Do you have a shifter that will get rid of the stock linkage set up?
Also, can you lace up some flat track / super moto rims in green? What's the price for them?
A:To take advantage of the bigger valves you need to open up the ports in the head. You would need to take the head to a shop that can do porting work and valve jobs, we don’t do that. The bigger valves will make a huge difference, especially in a big bore high revving motor. We have a complete PVL ignition system that eliminates the stock rev limiter and it also takes almost 2 lb off the flywheel weight. The PVL runs $449.
I have not yet found a no-linkage shifter that isn't way too long. When we find one I will add it to the web site.
I don't have a source for green super moto rims. We could send out some silver ones to be anodized but that would probably add around $300 to the standard $899 price.
